The Department of EEE running under the guidance of Dr. J.S Mahanawala was established in 2005 with a clear vision to contribute its bit in the national effort of providing quality Electrical Engineers in the service of mankind. Starting from the modest beginning the department has grown from strength to strength to become a versatile entity. This has become possible because of the perseverance, sincerity and dedication exhibited by our staff and students
The B.Tech course is approved by AICTE and affiliated to MDU
The Department has been playing a pioneering role in producing world class technocrats. The infrastructure and lab facilities are upgraded from time to time and provide adequate opportunities for students and researchers to learn and innovate. The department has distinguished faculty, all holding M. Tech & PhD degrees from renowned institute. The faculty of the department has been constantly carrying out research on many cutting edge technologies and regularly publish papers in journals. The department also under takes many research projects sponsored by both the government and Industry. The Deptt. grew with time, reflecting the needs of a changing society and established new areas of teaching and research in electrical engineering . The laboratories exist in the department as follows :
• ELECTRICAL ENGG. LAB
The laboratory provides hands-on experience with DC and AC circuits that includes the applications of Kirchhoff’s laws, superposition and Thevenin equivalent circuits. Topics also include operational amplifier circuits, phasor diagrams and electric machines.
• EMMI LAB
Students get familiar with basic electrical measuring instruments and understand principles of electrical measurement. Each student supposed to learn how to use an electrical equipment lab.
• NUMERICAL TECH. LAB / ELECTRICAL SIMULATION LAB
Electrical engineering simulation software have been developed so that the students or the engineers could study the performance of electrical devices, electric circuits, or electrical power system by creating computerized models.
1. Pspice Software
2. Mathematica Software
3. Matlab software
4. Caspoc software
Industry wise Career in Electrical Engineering
- This is the mother of all streams of engineering. Electronics, communication, computer science and instrumentation- all these fall under the ambit of electrical engineering. It is a core branch with resilient demand.
- Huge growth in the power sector and related industries has created demand. It is expected that the energy sector in India would need investments of about Rs. 5 lakh crore in the next five years alone. This would create a huge manpower demand.
- Need for Electrical Engineers exists not only in the fast growing Energy sector-nuclear power plants, hydroelectric power plants as well as thermal power plants, but also in other industries like cement, steel and petrochemicals.
- With growth of the Industrial sector, Metro railways and electric traction, and Power sector, electrical engineering graduates are in demand and shall continue to be in demand.
- Despite being one of the oldest streams in engineering, the academic programme has shown much resilience and agility by adapting itself to the industrial demands and technological innovations.
- Electrical engineers deal with problems associated with large scale electrical systems such as power transmission and motor control and generation, distribution and requirements related thereof. With the advent of power electronics, especially industrial and power electronics, the relevance of this very much enhanced. This is because most of the modern gadgets and equipment rely heavily on electronic control systems and components for proper operational control.
- Not only government and public sector organizations, but private organizations that are in an aggressive phase of growth offer excellent opportunities. For example, Suzlon and Reliance offer a bright future to young professionals. Along with wind energy, the solar photovoltaic technology market has seen a rise of 62% last year. Companies moving into this space will also be hiring aggressively, now and over the next five to six years. Moser Baer, setting up a US $500 million PV fabrication facility in Chennai with an annual capacity to produce 40 MW would require, at the very outset 4,000 engineers and scientists. Another area that will provide some of the best growth opportunities and salaries in the times to come would be Nuclear technology, once the private sector is allowed to enter and exploit this field commercially.
- For people, who do not have prior work experience, companies look for sound fundamentals in their chosen area. Growth traits such as external focus, imagination, clear thinking, expertise and inclusiveness are very important qualities that companies look for. Beginners with a B.Tech can get around Rs. 3.0 – Rs. 3.5 lakhs per year, while an M.Tech can get Rs. 5.25 lakh as the minimum starting salary
